Members of the Association are proud of the
significant contributions made in critical areas of our industry and
the enhancement of our professionalism. Since that beginning in 1980,
there have been many successful challenges. The Association has:
-
Worked to reverse the position of the State Fire Marshal’s
office, which would have required all fire alarm salespersons to be
licensed as a Fire Alarm Technician.
-
Communicated extensively, vigorously and
successfully in Washington DC with other Alarm Industry
Associations, in support of the passage of a bill to
restrict entrance of the Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOC’s)
into the security alarm industry. 1992 - 1996
-
Established a formal program to reduce false
alarms and currently interact in a friendly atmosphere with city
officials on this matter. 1996
-
Worked with the State Fire Marshal's office
during the process of regulation changes to clarify duties
which otherwise would have required alarm monitoring
station attendants to be licensed by the State Fire Marshal’s office in
areas of installation methods.
-
Successfully negotiated time extensions with
state wide telephone companies to allow a sufficient and reasonable
time for reprogramming alarm panels. 1998
-
Worked with Texas state legislators to protect against a contract limitation
bill and ensure that there were adequate limitations under which
municipalities may offer monitoring service, as well as require
municipalities to be brought under the requirements of the National
Fire Code for the first time. 1999
-
Worked cooperatively with the city of Arlington to revise
the local alarm ordinance for continued citizen choice for police response to alarms. 2003
-
Worked cooperatively with the city of Fort Worth to revise
the local alarm ordinance for continued citizen choice for police response to alarms. 2004
-
Produced an educational video to reduce false
alarms. 2005
-
Assisted in coordination and sponsored
municipalities to a attend a false alarm reduction program. 2005
-
Defended citizens and business owner rights to
equal protection under the law in support of continued citizen
choice for police response. 2005-2006
-
Worked in good cooperation with the cities of
Carrollton, Irving, Plano, and Richardson to revise the city Alarm
ordinance. 2006
